Kanata North Community Recognition Awards

Do you know someone in Kanata North who’s made a difference in our Community? Nominate them for a Community Award in appreciation for their contributions. Awards will be given for Youth of the Year, Senior of the Year, a Citizen of the Year and Business of the Year.   A copy of the nomination form is attached. Nominations forms can also be found at the Ward Office (2500 Campeau), at the Beaverbrook Library depot in the Beaverbrook Mall (2 Beaverbrook Rd) or online at www.mariannewilkinson.com.  Submit completed forms to Councillor Wilkinson at the Ward Office (2500 Campeau), by mail 110 Laurier Ave. W, Ottawa ON K1P 1J1, fax 613-580-2514, emailMarianne.Wilkinson@ottawa.ca or at via my website. Submissions must be received on or before May 17, 2013.  A special ceremony will be held on June 18th to recognize the winners and those nominated for their contribution to the community.

Time Capsules Have Arrived!

Our new recreation centre will be opening in November.  As part of the fundraising for inclusions that are not funded by the City the idea was raised about having time capsules.  These are made of bamboo and are the size of a small soup can with inside dimensions of 90 mm (3.5”) by 55mm (2”).  These capsules will be put in a vault in the floor of the new recreation centre which will be opened in 2063 – bringing delight to future generations.   Time capsules are available for $20 each (cash or cheque).  If there is interest I will arrange for a time capsule filling event for your Community Association.  For each capsule a certificate will be provided with the number of your capsule.  Each canister will be checked as they are filled to ensure that no liquids, gels, batteries or other items that may degrade the canister are included.  Check my website for updates and information on additional time capsule filling locations/events.

Cleaning the Capital is Celebrating its 20th Year

Many organizations have already shown their community pride and are taking part in this spring’s city wide cleanup campaign!   If you haven’t yet registered join your friends, coworkers and neighbours and cleanup up public property.  Get involved and have a great time. Be proud of your city! Together, we can keep Ottawa clean, green, graffiti and litter-free! Register your cleanup and you will receive a cleanup kit with all the supplies you and your team will need to get started! Once completed remember to submit your cleanup report and you could win a prize! It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3! Visit ottawa.ca/clean for more information, to register and to submit your report.  Having all Community Associations participate also adds to numbers for the Ward Award which has been won by Kanata North in the past and which with all participating we can win again.

Attached you will find an electronic copy of the Community Award Announcement Poster, Nomination Form and a copy of this letter.  Contact me if you would like a printed copy of any of these items.

Thank you for your participation.

Sincerely,

Councillor Marianne Wilkinson

Kanata North Business Improvement Area (KNBIA) launches online ideas campaign to engage local businesses to set future course

KNBIA Board of Management is pleased to announce the launch of an online engagement or crowdsourcing initiative to develop new ideas and stimulate discussion amongst members and local stakeholders on how to build a better future for the Kanata North business area.

The KNBIA was formed to address the global challenges that the local business community faces in creating sustainable and competitive businesses that succeed locally as well as internationally. Communities achieve greater success when they pull together to harness input and ideas from businesses across every sector, together with those of their employees and local stakeholders from every walk of life.  “The Kanata North BIA provides an excellent forum for business owners/leaders, employees and residents to have input on the future of this area – the BIA is looking forward to obtaining feedback on ideas and priorities through our online forum” according to Kevin Ford, Founding Chair of the KNBIA Board of Management.

For the online ideas campaign, the KNBIA is working with Ideavibes using their online engagement or crowdsourcing platform to provide a mechanism for the community to drive innovation and strengthen relationships through collective engagement, open innovation, and community participation.  Councilor Marianne Wilkinson, Chair of the KNBIA Marketing and Branding Committee, observed that “Ottawa is fortunate to have a technology oriented business park in Kanata North that provides a variety of employment opportunities while serving an international market.  Using social media to obtain ideas for its future is an ideal way for everyone to connect with the new Kanata North BIA and help determine the future of their business park.”

Extended to April 7th!

Visit www.ideavibes.com/kanatanbia_ideas to view and participate in the online ideas or crowdsourcing campaign from March 6 to April 7, 2013. You can vote or comment on existing ideas or post your own idea to the central question of: “What ideas do you have to improve the future of the Kanata North business area?”
